4/13/2014 · Aluminum sulfate is very effective at lowering the pH of soil. I use Pro Mix which is usually 7 right out of the bag. I've found that adding 4 grams of aluminum sulfate per gallon of soil will lower the pH to 6.3 - 6.4. As the soil dries out the pH will slowly rise back up to around 6.7, but will go back down again with the next watering.
